A common question from people considering investing in an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is the price, so how much does a defibrillator cost?
Prices for units can vary greatly, depending on the features and brand of the defibrillator. An easy analogy is to think of a defibrillator like a car: you can buy a cheaper car that will still get you from A to B, or pay a bit more for a car with extra features that make driving easier for some people.
The same is true with defibrillators, entry level models will still get the job done and deliver a life saving shock, but more expensive models can offer more features such as CPR feedback, full colour screens, and even WiFi.
More affordable defibrillators
Entry level defibrillators start around £700+VAT, with the lowest priced defibrillator on the Defib Warehouse website currently being the iPAD NFK200 defibrillator, priced at £775+VAT*. Despite its lower price, this unit does offer additional features such as a paediatric switch to change between adult and child modes. *at the time of writing
Other defibrillators around this price point include the Philips HeartStart HS1 and the iPAD SP1 fully automatic defibrillator.
Higher end defibrillators
How much does a defibrillator cost? At the higher end of the price scale, devices can be priced from £2000+VAT upwards. These defibrillators often have additional features, such as the ZOLL AED 3, which comes with a full colour screen to talk the user through CPR, especially useful if the user is deaf or hard of hearing.
Another defibrillator in this price bracket is the Physio Control LIFEPAK CR2, which also features a paediatric switch and CPR coaching. The CR2 is currently on offer – reduced by £450+VAT.*

The ZOLL AED Plus is a similar unit, priced lower than the AED 3, but also offers ‘premium’ features such as CPR feedback and visual instructions in the form of illuminated images on the AED, as well as audio prompts to guide you through the rescue.
Renting a defibrillator
To remove the upfront cost of a defibrillator altogether, many choose to rent their device. from as little as 99p per day, you can receive an AED, storage and consumables. As well as this, renting a defibrillator from Defib Warehouse gives you 50 licenses to our bespoke e-learning platform ELSA, through which you can set courses for your employees to help understand using your defibrillator device and performing CPR as well as general first aid.
Why you should own a defibrillator
When a cardiac arrest strikes, the speed in which treatment is delivered is a highly important factor – chances of survival fall by 10% for every minute someone is in cardiac arrest without treatment. The only definitive treatment for cardiac arrest is a shock from a defibrillator.
Less than 1 in 10 people who suffer a cardiac arrest in the UK survive currently (Warwick University). This figure may seem alarming, and can be improved greatly by making AEDs more available and educating people on how to use them.
If an AED shock is delivered within 3 to 5 minutes of the casualty collapsing, survival rates can be as high as 74%, having one nearby could really be the difference between life and death.
