Register Your Defibrillator On The Circuit

What is The Circuit?

TheCircuit.uk is the UK’s National Defibrillator Network it maps defibrillators across the UK and connects them directly and automatically to the Ambulance Services.  The Circuit aim is to locate and register the UK’s estimated 100,000 defibrillators, so that ambulance services can direct bystanders to their nearest defibrillator and increase a person’s chances of survival. By registering your defibrillator this provides Ambulance Control Centres across the UK with your device’s location which can then be provided to 999 callers when reporting a cardiac arrest emergency.

Register your defibrillator on The Circuit - Give your defib its best chance at saving a life

Every year in the UK, more than 40,000 people have an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and less than 1 in 10 survive an OHCA.  Early defibrillation and CPR can more than double the chances of surviving.  It is estimated that 70% of Defibrillators are unknown to Ambulance Services and less likely to be used in an emergency. This is where you can help by registering your Defibrillator on TheCircuit.uk

If your Defibrillator is registered on The Circuit – the national defibrillator network, every ambulance services in the UK will be able to direct bystanders to the nearest life-saving defibrillator!

The Circuit is developed by The British Heart Foundation, in partnership with the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives, Resuscitation Council UK, St John Ambulance, Save A Life Cymru and NHS England.

Why should you register your defibrillator with The Circuit?

A defibrillator registered on The Circuit could make the difference between life and death.

  1. Ambulance services can only direct callers to a defibrillator they know about. When someone calls 999 for a cardiac arrest, the call handler can send a bystander to the nearest registered defibrillator. If yours isn’t on The Circuit, it can’t be found when every second counts.
  2. It keeps your defibrillator ready to use. A defibrillator only saves lives if it works when needed. Once registered, The Circuit sends regular reminders to check your device and replace pads and batteries before they expire.
  3. Too many chances to save lives are being missed. Defibrillators are used in fewer than 1 in 20 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. Registering your device helps close that gap.
